SeaPerch History

Since 2011 SeaPerch has been run by RoboNation, a nonprofit, charitable company that focuses on building a robotics community. A project in the book “How to Build an Underwater Robot” by Harry Bohm and Vickie Jensen influenced the creation of the SeaPerch competition. Originally the idea was used as a teacher training program, but as time went on it was developed into an ever inspiring competition.

Mission

The SeaPerch competitions goal is to create an environment where students have the opportunity to enhance their skills regarding engineering, mathematics, robotics, and science in order to use these skills in the future STEM related fields. The future is most likely going to heavily contain and rely on technology and sciences. The goal of SeaPerch is to challenge students to bring their all to the table using underwater submersibles to navigate through a variety of tasks.

Our Winners

Breck Shupe, Ben Finke, Alyssa Nurmat, and Ax Nagel traveled to Maryland in 2023 for the National SeaPerch competition and Placed 10th out of over 150 teams with their submersible. It was a great time and they all highly recommend incoming TJ sophomores attend and compete in the competition.

"Our submersible was held together with hot glue, zip-ties and hopes and dreams." - Breck Shupe
